Conversation Project flyer

"The state of Oregon is home to fourteen state prisons and one federal prison, places where people are kept as punishment for crimes. But why do we punish? Why is punishment sometimes sanctioned by the state, as in the case of prisons? How do “youth correctional facilities” differ from prisons both in practice and in purpose? Are there other ways to punish that may be more effective, reasonable, or desirable? Philosopher and writer Monica Mueller facilitates a conversation around these questions and others regarding the motivation, purpose, and methods of punishment."
