Tax Information You Should Know

For many years, the library has been a delivery location for tax forms and instructions. However, in recent years, the IRS and Oregon Department of Revenue have been gradually phasing out paper tax forms and instruction booklets, in favor of moving the material online.

This year, the IRS will send us the following 2015 forms and instruction booklets:

  • 1040
  • 1040 A
  • 1040 EZ

The library will receive no schedules and no other forms for free this year. All IRS forms and instruction booklets are available online at www.irs.gov.

For several years now, the library has received no paper forms or instructions from the Oregon Department of Revenue.

All Oregon state tax forms and instruction booklets are only available at the Oregon Department of Revenue website, www.oregon.gov/dor/.

What the Library Can Do For You

Library staff are not certified to give tax advice. We can, however, use the tools the IRS has provided to the public to help you figure out which forms you need and help you access them.

E-filing

The library provides computers with free Internet access, if you would like to e-file your taxes. We also have wifi access in the building if you have your own laptop. Network: maclibrary. Password: unitedstates.

Paper Instructions and Forms

For the convenience of people who do not have Internet access at home or would like to avoid the hassle of printing the forms themselves, the library has pre-printed copies of the Oregon instruction booklets. Staff can also print off other forms as requested. Because we need to pay for the ink and paper used for printing in-house, we charge 5 cents a page for tax forms and instructions (probably the best price in town). You can pick up and pay for these items (cash or check – debit not accepted, sorry) at the upstairs library information desk.

We also have in-library use only copies of the tax instructions (copies can be made for 10 cents a page on our public photo copy machine), and tax instructions for checkout with your library card.

Tax Help Sessions

The library is hosting AARP tax help volunteers, who can help seniors and lower income people e-file their taxes. Appointments are available on Mondays until April 11. Call the library reference desk, 503-435-5562 to make an appointment.
