Mikayla Wallace, President, Board of Directors
Originally from Lostine, Oregon, Mikayla Wallace first came to McMinnville as a Linfield University student and has now called the area home for several years. A business and real estate attorney, she brings a legal perspective and a passion for literacy to the Library Foundation’s work. Mikayla believes the library is the heart of the community and a gathering place for everyone. When she’s not reading fiction, crafting, or enjoying a latte, she might be at a Taylor Swift concert.
Lonny Watne, Treasurer, Board of Directors
Originally from La Grande, Oregon, Lonny Watne has lived in McMinnville for seven years. As Treasurer, he draws on a strong finance background in banking and the hospitality industry. Lonny is passionate about the power of reading to broaden perspectives and connect people across differences. Outside of his Foundation work, he enjoys restoring furniture, rescuing animals, and celebrating Halloween (his favorite holiday). A longtime traveler, Lonny has lived on five tropical islands and in five states while working in the resort industry, but he’s proud to now call McMinnville home.
Amy Scholer, Secretary, Board of Directors
A McMinnville resident for more than two decades, Amy Scholer brings over 30 years of administrative experience to the Library Foundation of McMinnville. A lover of books, art, film, and dance, Amy believes libraries serve as the essential “third place”: a vital space where people connect beyond home and work. Her background in organization and process improvement helps strengthen the Foundation’s behind-the-scenes operations. Outside her volunteer work, Amy enjoys exploring the arts, reading, and spending time with her family.
Kris Wessel, Board Member
Originally from Springfield, Illinois, Kris Wessel has lived in Oregon for 24 years, with the last 20 years spent in Carlton. With a passion for reading, health care, and community, she believes libraries open doors to the world and connect people through stories, culture, and shared learning. Kris brings an enthusiasm for literacy and civic engagement to her role on the Library Foundation board. When she’s not reading or immersed with dogs and chickens, Kris is searching recipes, connecting people to resources, or enjoying time with friends.
Jenny Pessereau, Board Member
Born in Connecticut and after 30 years in California, Jenny Pessereau has called McMinnville home for seven years. A published poet featured in Paper Gardens, she has a lifelong love of children’s books and poetry. In addition to her literary pursuits, Jenny enjoys practicing her French (elle parle français!) and celebrating the creativity libraries inspire.
JoAnne Benkstein, Board Member
Originally from Twin Lakes, Wisconsin, JoAnne Benkstein has called McMinnville home since 2005. From her first visit to a library as a child she was enchanted by its magic, and she works to ensure others can experience that same sense of wonder. JoAnne loves the excitement that fills the McMinnville Library, especially during children’s storytime. Her hobbies include traveling, quilting, playing bridge, and spending time with her grandchildren. Rarely seen without a book in hand, JoAnne brings warmth, enthusiasm, and a lifelong love of reading to her role on the Library Foundation board.
Sara Tucholsky , Board Memeber
A longtime McMinnville resident, Sara Tucholsky grew up across several Oregon towns. A local English teacher and passionate community advocate, she believes deeply in the power of literacy and access for all. Sara believes libraries foster connection, curiosity, and belonging and serve as the cornerstone of a healthy community. Her commitment to community spaces extends beyond bookshelves: she has also helped develop three McMinnville playgrounds. When she’s not teaching or volunteering, Sara enjoys running, hiking, paddleboarding, playing games with her sons, and listening to music.
