MMV History

MMV Airport - 2024
  • The McMinnville Municipal Airport was constructed in 1943 as a National Defense Project during WWII, training USAAF pilots to be prepared to defend the west coast from invasion. In 1942 the City of McMinnville acquired the land from surrounding farms (fee simple titles) and the military constructed the airfield infrastructure. Much of what currently remains at MMV is the original military layout and development, including the west "Quonset" hangar. The east Quonset Hangar was constructed in 1957.

  • In 1982 the Voters passed a 6-year bond levy to construct a $700,000 building to accommodate an FAA Flight Service Station, which closed around 2006 as FAA contracted out flight services to Lockheed Martin. The building is now leased primarily by the Oregon State Police as the McMinnvile Area Command after a remodel in 2009.

  • The original RWY 17/22 threshold intersection overlap was corrected during a RWY 17/35 rehabilitation project in 2008. The current TWY "D" system, including D1, D2, and D3, were constructed to modern design standards in 2010, allowing for the closure of the original WWII connector between the original threshold of RWY 4 (now A3) and RWY 17. The City of McMinnville partnered with Evergreen Aviation to provide the required grant match in exchange for the use of airport property to connect TWY A3 to the Evergreen corporate hangar, now owned by Precision Aviation.
