Maintenance of Parks, Streets, Storms Drains and Fleet/Equipment

 

Park Maintenance

The Park Maintenance section's primary mission is the maintenance of the City's park and open space assets. The work includes regularly scheduled efforts as well as demand driven responses to weather, park user requests, recreation programming needs and vandalism. Activities include litter removal, restroom maintenance, turf management, landscape maintenance, tree maintenance, irrigation system maintenance, building maintenance, lighting system maintenance, vandalism repair, trail/bridge maintenance, leaf removal, athletic field maintenance, playground maintenance and community event support. The section also reviews park development plans and provides maintenance services on public areas such as City Hall, Chamber of Commerce, Community Center and all City owned parking facilities. The City maintains 21 park sites comprising over 223 developed acres.

Street Maintenance

The Street Maintenance Section's primary mission is the maintenance of the City's transportation assets. Year-round activities include a street sweeping, sign maintenance and installation, right of way mowing and herbicide application, inclement weather response (sanding, catch basin clearing, gravel street work, pot-hole filling, downed trees, etc), street tree removals and community event support. City staff coordinates traffic signal and street lighting Seasonal activities include vision clearance pruning in the right of way, asphalt patching, crack sealing, pavement marking, curb painting, leaf collection and sign/pavement making installations for new development. The section also reviews new development plans for signing and street maintenance issues. This work is conducted over approximately 100 miles of streets.

Storm Drain System Maintenance

This work is conducted in a cooperative effort between the Wastewater Services Division and Street Maintenance staff. Work includes catch basin cleaning, manhole cleaning, storm drain cleaning and TV inspection, ditch cleaning, culvert cleaning, detention pond maintenance, pollution control manhole cleaning, root control and storm drain repair work. The City currently maintains some 71 miles of storm drain pipes, as well as a network of culverts and open ditches that convey storm water throughout the community.

Fleet/Equipment Maintenance

The Division provides vehicle maintenance services for various fleet vehicles and rolling stock from Building, Engineering, Wastewater Services, Planning, Administration, Park Maintenance, Parks and Recreation and Street Maintenance. Numerous pieces of equipment such as hedgers, weed eaters, backpack blowers, mowers, etc. are maintained as well. Services provided include routine scheduled maintenance, emergency repair, parts ordering, equipment modifications, hydraulic repairs, brake jobs, etc. Staff also reviews all new major equipment purchase specifications for functionality and serviceability.
