ENCOURAGING POLLINATING BEES IN OUR GARDENS

This class will help gardeners choose plants to help feed our local bees. Joan will discuss drought-tolerant trees, shrubs and herbaceous plants which provide pollen and nectar sources for both our native bees and honeybees during the dry summer season (July-Oct) when both pollen and nectar can be less available. Joan lives on a rural property outside of Sheridan and is an active gardener. She has been a Yamhill County Master Gardener since 2018 and a hobby beekeeper since 2020.

MOON CAKE PASTRY: A MID-AUTUMN DELIGHT

The Matcha Red Bean Mook Cake Pastry is a beloved treat is Taiwan, especially during the Mid-Autumn Festival.  You will learn how to make two different flavors of delicious mook cake pastries-the classic mung bean paste filling and the other with the rich, earthy flavor of matcha combined with red bean paste.  We will guide you through making the fillings for each flavor and teach you how to create the soft, flaky layers of pastry that encase them.  Youi will have hand-on experience and take home a beautiful gift box filled with the freshly made moon cakes you crafted.!  Register in advance; space is limited.

MASTERING BAO: TRADITIONAL & CREATIVE STEAMED BUNS

Bao, baozi or steamed buns, are a beloved dish in many Asian cultures, known for their soft, fluffy texture and delicious fillings. In this hands-on class, you will learn how to make both traditional and creative versions of these tasty buns. We will start by mastering the classic bao dough and preparing traditional fillings like pork or vegetables for a classic steamed bun. We will experiment with unique fillings or colorful dough.   Each student will take home a batch of tasty and fresh bao.
